Great fit

You'll love it if…

  • You enjoy photography and want to practise it on the move, not just from a fixed spot.
  • You prefer an unhurried pace that puts light and composition ahead of distance.
Worth a second look

It might not be for you if…

  • You are looking for a fast or sporty hike: here photography sets the pace, not the clock.

Who'll be with you on this activity

Javier Gil

Javier adjusts the pace of the day to the light and to what you want to photograph, not to the clock: he knows where to stop in Aigüestortes for the best composition and when it is worth waiting a little longer for the wildlife or the sky.

He offers advice on composition and basic camera settings as you go, with no previous photography experience needed.

Additional information

  • What you photograph decides the best time

Landscapes and flora in Aigüestortes work almost all year round; for wildlife, the red deer rut in autumn is the best window; for the night sky, you need a clear, moonless night.

  • A pace set by the light

This is not a route about covering distance: composition and light set the pace, so the day may move more slowly than a normal trek.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us

01What can I photograph at different times of year?

In Aigüestortes, glacial landscapes and flora almost all year round. In the Val d'Aran, wildlife, with the red deer rut in autumn as the best time. And the night sky from the Bonaigua when skies are clear.

02Do I need photography experience?

It is not essential. The guide helps with composition and settings to suit the light, and the unhurried pace works just as well if you simply want to learn.

03Can it be combined with the Red Deer Rut or Aigüestortes?

Yes, in fact that is the natural way to plan it: the same area, with the camera as the common thread of the day.

04What gear do I need to bring?

Any camera will do, from a phone to a DSLR. If you have a telephoto lens for wildlife or a tripod for the night sky, so much the better, but they are not essential.

05Is it physically demanding?

No. Light and composition set the pace, not the distance, so it is accessible to most people.

06Can I go on my own or do I need a group?

You can book individually; the guide adapts the pace whether you come alone or in a small group.
