Activity overview

Montardo: the peak that sums up the Val d'Aran

Thanks to its central position in the valley, Montardo offers one of the best panoramas in the Val d'Aran, with several lake cirques visible from the summit. It is a full and demanding day because of the elevation gain, but with no technical difficulty if there is no snow, and two usual approaches: from Arties or from the Restanca Refuge.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us

01Is Montardo the most important peak in the Val d'Aran?

Several independent sources describe it as the most representative and emblematic peak in the valley, because of its central position and the panorama it offers.

02Can you climb it from the Restanca Refuge?

Yes, it is one of the two most usual ascent routes, along with the one from Arties following the valley.

03Do I need technical equipment?

No, if there is no snow. With snow the difficulty changes and additional equipment and experience may be needed; the guide assesses conditions before setting off.

04When will it be available with a fixed price and dates?

We are still finalising the guide and logistics for this trip. Get in touch if you are interested and we will let you know as soon as it is available.

05How long does the ascent take?

About 8 hours there and back, with roughly 1,250 metres of elevation gain. It is a long day that calls for good fitness.

06Is it suitable for my first peak above 2,800 m?

If you are already used to walking for several hours in the mountains, yes. If it is your first time at this altitude, it is better to start with a shorter peak such as Montcorbison.

07Can it be combined with other peaks in the valley?

It can be planned as a stand-alone outing, or you can talk to us about combining it with another ascent during the same stay.
