Benasque, Aragonese Pyrenees · Adventure and Nature
Three days from refuge to refuge, walking right around the Maladeta and Aneto massif, without ever needing to set foot on the glacier.
Activity overview
Instead of heading straight for the summit, this trek walks right around the Maladeta-Aneto massif: three days, two nights in refuges and a pass of almost 2,800 metres in between. It is the way to get to know the setting of the highest peak in the Pyrenees in depth, with an Ecotour mountain leader, without needing glacier experience.
From €359 per person (early booking; €399 last minute) for a group of 4-8 people, with guide, insurance and half board in both refuges included. Transport and packed lunches are not included; confirmed on request depending on dates and the actual group size.

Before you book
You do not need glacier or climbing experience, but you do need to be genuinely used to walking several days in a row with a rucksack and sustained ascent.
Private group
The activity is reserved exclusively for your group. The total price is split between participants, so the more of you there are, the less each person pays, with no change to the route, the attention you get or the guide's judgement.
The deposit to confirm your date is €50 and is deducted from the total. Before you pay, you'll receive the change and cancellation conditions in writing.
Ask about dates and availabilityBefore confirming, we go over your experience, fitness and kit with you.

Who'll be with you on this activity
On a multi-day trek, the decision that matters most is not the one on the first day, but the one each following morning: how the pass looks at dawn, how much energy the group has left, whether it is time to set off earlier than planned.
The Ecotour guide leading you on this trek assesses the real state of the Salenques pass before tackling it, and adapts the pace of the three days to the group, not the other way round.
Detailed itinerary

DAY 1
Setting off up the Benasque valley along the Ésera river, first through mixed woodland and then across open meadows, to the Renclusa refuge at 2,140 metres. An approach day with no technical difficulty: 13.2 km and around 884 m of elevation gain.

DAY 2
The longest and most demanding stage of the trek: 11.3 km with more than 1,100 m of elevation gain, crossing the Salenques (or Ixalenques) pass, close to 2,800 metres, a boulder section that can hold snow or ice even in high summer. The guide assesses the conditions before tackling it.

DAY 3
A descent through high-mountain terrain past the Vallibierna lakes, with almost 1,400 m of descent, until you join the track that leads back to the starting point. 13.8 km to close the trek.
Aneto Circuit: a three-day circular trek

More than a guide, a friend!! His level of knowledge about the mountains, snow, animals and everything related to the mountains is exceptional. My experience with him on snowshoes: 15 out of 10!! A professional and one of those people who only give... Personally, I didn't meet a guide, I made a friend. Professionally... one of a kind... I'd always recommend him, and I already do. A hug, Javi.

We did a snowshoe route and the experience was heartwarming. Javi as a guide doesn't just pass on his love of the mountains, he teaches you to love and understand them; on top of that he's one of the group, he's your friend and he cares about every single person in it.

I went on a trip to Morocco with Ecotour and Javi: 4 people and two specialists in snake spotting and rescue. Honestly, the number of different species we saw was surprising, from cobras to vipers and grass snakes, very big desert lizards, geckos and so on. It was non-stop, including getting into Western Sahara, with a group that from minute one felt like we'd known each other all our lives, great vibes and lots and lots of passion for animals and sharing. I learned a ton of things and was able to handle these animals in complete safety. I'd also say that I never felt we were going through tourist spots, quite the opposite. The places we passed through hadn't seen outsiders for days. That means that, besides everything being cheaper, you feel you've really got into the heart of a trip. One hundred percent adventure; more than a tour, it was a trip among friends passionate about animals. Thanks for everything, Javi, and for being there looking out for everyone. A big hug, and I'll do it again as soon as I can, no doubt. 🫂🙌

Red deer rut
A wonderful experience in a luxury setting. We got in touch with Javi after finding him online and it was a great decision. He's a young guy, passionate about his work and about nature, and it shows. He explained so many things about the rut and the surroundings, and brought samples to show us how animals are tracked, always with respect and without disturbing their habitat. He also took loads of souvenir photos, both of us and of the animals, which we really appreciated. I loved the equipment he uses: he has a screen that attaches to the camera, so we could all enjoy the views without needing telescopes. Thank you so much, Javi, for the experience. You're a truly lovely person.

Red deer rut
Without a doubt an unforgettable experience. Several companies offer the rut, but not like this one: his knowledge of the subject, together with the technology he uses, guarantees a complete outing and lets you enjoy the activity to the fullest. 100% recommended
