Fifteen days to link three massifs and eleven peaks above 4,000 metres: M'Goun from the Berber valley of Aït Bougmez, the isolated Adrar n'Dern from the remote Amsouzart valley, and the full Toubkal cirque with a fixed base at the refuge. The longest and most demanding traverse in our Morocco catalogue, with a contingency day included and the local Berber team on every section.

Who will be with you on this trip
Teams of Berber guides of the Atlas
Each of the three massifs on the traverse has its own team of guides, muleteers and a cook, based in the corresponding valleys: Aït Bougmez for M'Goun, Amsouzart for Adrar n'Dern and Imlil for Toubkal.
The plan for each day is decided on the ground. The aim is all eleven summits, but the priority is always getting down well from each one.

Trip highlights
What makes this route special
Aït Bougmez, gateway to M'Goun
The "happy valley" of the Central Atlas, with its barley fields and Berber granaries, is the starting point of the expedition's first traverse.
Central Atlas, Aït Bougmez valley
Start of the M'Goun traverse
Berber farming life
M'Goun, the first summit
4,071 metres, the second highest mountain in Morocco, climbed from the Tarkeddit plateau along a long limestone ridge.
4,071 m, second highest peak in the country
Summit ridge from Tarkeddit
First block of the traverse
Adrar n'Dern, the solitary summit
South-east of Toubkal, near the village of Amsouzart, rises the least visited peak above 4,000 metres in Morocco. A day of isolated ascent, with far less traffic than any other summit of the challenge.
4,001 m, the most solitary in the country
Access from the remote Amsouzart valley
Exposed to the wind on the final ridge
The Toubkal cirque, the final block
After two traverses, the last week has a fixed base at the Toubkal refuge: each day you head out for two or three summits and come back to sleep in the same place, completing the challenge of the 4,000 m peaks of the western High Atlas.
Fixed base, no changing refuge
Toubkal, Ouanoukrim, Afella and Akioud
The best-known block of the traverse

Local team of Berber guides
All road transfers between Marrakech, Aït Bougmez, Amsouzart and Imlil, as per the programme.
Transfers at the destination

Accommodation and full board on the trek

What is not included
Additional information
Travel and rescue insurance
You must travel with insurance covering medical assistance, high-altitude mountain activity and rescue, with evacuation cover. It is not included in the price.
The eleven summits are not guaranteed
The aim is to complete them all, but the local team adjusts the plan each day according to the snow, the weather and the state of the group. Contingency day 14 gives room to reschedule a summit.
Fifteen days of real demand
This is the longest traverse in the Morocco catalogue, with days of 8 to 10 hours several days in a row and two different camping traverses before reaching the Toubkal refuge. It requires real previous experience of mountain traverses lasting more than a week, good acclimatisation and no knee or joint injuries.
Three local teams, one trip
M'Goun, Adrar n'Dern and the Toubkal cirque rely on three different guide teams, each specialising in its own massif. Coordination between sections is handled by the local operator at the destination.
What's not included, in detail
Flights and insurance
International flights to and from Marrakech
Travel insurance, assistance and high-altitude mountain rescue, with evacuation cover (compulsory)
Technical equipment
Personal high-mountain equipment
Additional equipment (helmet, crampons, ice axe) if conditions require it
In Marrakech and extras
Hotel nights in Marrakech before or after the programme
Drinks, tips and personal expenses
Frequently asked questions
What people ask us
01Do you always complete all eleven summits?
No summits are guaranteed. The weather, the state of the terrain and how the group is going can force a change to a day or the dropping of a summit. Day 14, the contingency day, exists precisely to give room to reschedule. The final decision always rests with the guides.
02Is this the hardest route in the Morocco catalogue?
Yes. It combines three massifs, two camping traverses and a refuge base in fifteen days, with days of 8 to 10 hours several days in a row. It requires real previous experience of mountain traverses lasting more than a week.
03What technical equipment do I need?
The basic high-mountain kit (boots, thermal layers, windproof shell, gloves, walking poles). On the most exposed ridges of the Toubkal cirque (Afella, Akioud, Biguinnoussene) the local team may recommend a helmet; crampons and ice axe depend on the season. None of this replaces a direct conversation with the local team before departure.
04Why does the guide team change during the trip?
Each massif (M'Goun, Adrar n'Dern and Toubkal) has its own local team, based in the corresponding valleys: they are the people who know each specific terrain best. The change of team is coordinated by the operator at the destination.
05How does payment work?
This trip is organised and sold by a partner team at the destination. At Ecotour we explain how it works, answer your questions and put you in touch with them when you want to move forward. No booking or payment is made through Ecotour.
06What insurance do I need?
Travel insurance covering medical assistance, high-altitude mountain activity and rescue, with evacuation cover. It is not included in the price and is compulsory to take part.
Just back from spending a few days in Morocco with Ecotour, all I can say is that the experience was wonderful, the kind that leaves unforgettable memories and makes life even more beautiful!!! Thank you

Morocco
I went on a trip to Morocco with Ecotour and Javi: 4 people and two specialists in snake spotting and rescue. Honestly, the number of different species we saw was surprising, from cobras to vipers and grass snakes, very big desert lizards, geckos and so on. It was non-stop, including getting into Western Sahara, with a group that from minute one felt like we'd known each other all our lives, great vibes and lots and lots of passion for animals and sharing. I learned a ton of things and was able to handle these animals in complete safety. I'd also say that I never felt we were going through tourist spots, quite the opposite. The places we passed through hadn't seen outsiders for days. That means that, besides everything being cheaper, you feel you've really got into the heart of a trip. One hundred percent adventure; more than a tour, it was a trip among friends passionate about animals. Thanks for everything, Javi, and for being there looking out for everyone. A big hug, and I'll do it again as soon as I can, no doubt. 🫂🙌

Patagonia
I went on a trip to Chilean Patagonia with Javi last Christmas and it was impressive!! Besides the scenery, which is truly incredible, Javi's management and organisation were great. Before the trip he advises you on everything you need, and during the trip he was one more companion and friend. A good person and a good professional, I'd definitely travel with him again.

Red deer rut
A wonderful experience in a luxury setting. We got in touch with Javi after finding him online and it was a great decision. He's a young guy, passionate about his work and about nature, and it shows. He explained so many things about the rut and the surroundings, and brought samples to show us how animals are tracked, always with respect and without disturbing their habitat.
He also took loads of souvenir photos, both of us and of the animals, which we really appreciated. I loved the equipment he uses: he has a screen that attaches to the camera, so we could all enjoy the views without needing telescopes.
Thank you so much, Javi, for the experience. You're a truly lovely person.

Red deer rut
Without a doubt an unforgettable experience. Several companies offer the rut, but not like this one: his knowledge of the subject, together with the technology he uses, guarantees a complete outing and lets you enjoy the activity to the fullest.
